My first book, My Friend Sancho, was published in May 2009, and went on to become the biggest selling debut novel released that year in India. It is a contemporary love story set in Mumbai, and had earlier been longlisted for the Man Asian Literary Prize 2008. To learn more about the book, click here.

Beauty, Danger and Dismay
by James FentonBeauty, danger and dismay
Met me on the public way.
Whichever I chose, I chose dismay.
Fenton is an old favourite of mine, and I particularly liked “Nothing” when I was in college. (Click and scroll down.) “Eloquence is a lie. The Truth is trite.”
A couple of other terrific poems by him: “The Ideal.” “In Paris with You.”
Also read: “James Fenton on Love Poetry.”
