The Crux of the Matter

Gail Collins sums up the Clinton-Obama battle:

The problem with primaries is that without real policy disagreements, if you want to prove you’re better than your opponent it has to get personal.

And so it goes. Getting personal should not be out of bounds, though—personal character has a lot to do with how good a leader one will be.
