SIX CHEERFUL COUPLETS ON DEATH

Most things won’t happen, Larkin said,
\nBut this one will: We will be dead.<\/p>\n
The saddest thing, in each context,
\nIs knowing that we could be next.<\/p>\n
Some take the bus, some take the train,
\nSome die in sleep, the rest in pain<\/p>\n
But of one thing we can be sure:
\nAll die imperfect, each impure<\/p>\n
Some wishing that they had been better,
\nOthers worse, but no one deader.<\/p>\n
Shoes left, like Buddhists, at the door:
